I was able to squeeze in a quick trip to Singapore in September 2019, for my third visit to that city-state. I enjoyed it very much – it was good to revisit familiar sights such as Marina Bay and also to find new places. It was also good to learn more about Singapore and its progress since independence, and I have to admit that my admiration for the place and the society continues to grow.
As ever, the heat can be trying, especially for a Brit on a very short visit. That said, there is plenty of respite from it; all you have to do is visit one of the air-conditioned Malls. It’s also true that for one of the days I was there, rain was the problem – torrential rain, for several hours rather than the usual brief downpour – and while it was raining it got quite cool.
I was there for just 6 nights – 5 full days. That might not seem very long for such a long trip, but I was on my own and I did find that on some of my longer trips on my own I got very lonely. In the event those 5 days (plus an extra 24 hours in Dubai on the way home) felt just right – by the end I’d seen everything on my list, I was still feeling good, and I was ready to return home.
Would I like to go back there? – yes, especially if I can persuade Val to come with me. If that ever came to pass that might be a longer trip, to include other places (maybe Bangkok? – although the city can be hard work there are some spectacular sights there), and maybe a few days downtime in the middle. But we’ll have to see. IN any case, that won’t be until 2021 at the earliest – we already have our holidays for next year (2020) planned.
Here are the links to some of the detailed posts I did:

- some pictures of Marina Bay;
- an interesting visit to the show apartments at the Housing Development Board headquarters;
- visits to the NUS Baba House and the Singapore City Gallery;
- and a collections of advisory signs that I took pictures of on my travels around Singapore.
