We visited Chicago and Mississippi for a week in April 2023, and had a really good time. Chicago was dynamic and exciting, with all that dramatic architecture and attraction; Mississippi was more homely. And of course it was a land of contrasts – pockets of wealth in the middle of significant poverty. We were also visiting our daughter in Mississippi, our first time doing so since she emigrated to the US in 2019. A previous visit had been arranged, for April 2020, to celebrate her first wedding anniversary (it wasn’t possible to get there for the wedding in 2019). Flights and hotels were booked, dresses were bought, and we were ready to go, but just three weeks before hand international travel stopped with the coming of the Covid-19 restrictions on movement. So this trip was the replacement, three years later.

We really enjoyed the trip, and hope we’ll be able to get back to Chicago another time.
