I was sorry to read this morning about the fire at the Royal Clarence Hotel overnight. I was outside it several times during my visit to Exeter in September. I have no idea how good a hotel it was, but it was an integral part of the architecture and street scene around Cathedral Yard, and it’s a shame to think that it’s gone.
Hopefully, it will be rebuilt. The image above shows that corner of Cathedral Yard in September. The actual hotel is the building on the extreme left, but I think the building next to it – with the attractive windows – is also part of the hotel, possibly a bar/bistro.
